Do People Understand Their Own Privileges?

The relationships between people and how they interact with society are the basics of sociology, but how do we understand these relationships? The answer is through experimentation and observation. For our second unit in our STEAM class, Systems & Models, we studied how people interact with each other, with technology and with other living things. For this Action Project, our goal was to design our own sociological experiment that answers a question that we have about people. To help us in this experiment, we visited MediaScience, a company that conducts social experiments for companies to help refine advertisements, marketing, and branding. This Field Experiment was very interesting and useful as we got to visit their labs in downtown Chicago and see how they collect data, something we all had to do for our own projects. I chose to focus on the idea of privilege for my experiment. Privilege is something that has always interested me, as it affects almost every part of people's lives, yet many do not tend to think about their own privilege. Thank you for reading.
