Hit by HIV

For this unit, World in our STEAM class Disease, we studied the effects of diseases on populations, not just individuals. We also learned how to calculate the R-0, the reproductive rate of a disease, and factors that affect how fast or slow a disease may spread. For his Action Project, we chose a disease that has had an outbreak and created a newspaper article explaining the factors that led to the outbreak, how it affected the world, and what we can do differently in the future to prevent another outbreak. I decided to research HIV, human immunodeficiency virus because it has killed hundreds of thousands of people and I realized I didn't really know that much about how it spreads or how to try and control it. My hope for this project is that it will help others who, like me, did not understand HIV, and will hopefully stop or slow an outbreak in the future.
