A Playlist to DIE for

R and J, TesTeach (2014)

This Elective Term, I was in a workshop called Romeo and Juliet. We read aloud the play, watched 2 movie versions, and even wrote our own versions of some of the scenes. For our Final Action Project, we had to make a playlist of 10 songs that could be part of the play. My playlist is below, and here.

Since U Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson- This song refers to Romeo's failed attempts to date Rosaline, Juliet's cousin, who wants to become a nun.

Party Tattoos by Dodie Clark- This song is about having fun while you're young, and refers to the masquerade Dance where Romeo and Juliet meet.

Hello, I Love You by The Doors- Because Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight, I chose this song.

Do you Remeber by Jack Johnson- This song is about getting married to the love of your life, which Romeo and Juliet do in Act 2.

Bohemian Rhapsody covered by Pentatonix- This song talks about murdering someone and having to deal with all of the judgment and consequences of that. When Romeo kills Tybalt, he was banished from the city and therefore, Juliet.

I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers- Romeo only thought about running back to Juliet while he was in exile, even though it could mean his death.

Papa Don't Preach by Madonna- Juliet's father is forcing her to marry Paris because he does not know that she is already married to Romeo. Like this scene, the song is about disagreements about a romance between a daughter and a father.

I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton- Juliet decides she could never live married to Paris, so she takes a chemical that makes her appear to be dead, as an act of true love.

(Don't Fear) The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult- Romeo, believing Juliet has died, kills himself because he would never be able to live without her.

A Thousand Years by Christina Perri- After Juliet sees that Romeo has died, she also kills herself, hoping they will see each other again in the afterlife.
