This unit, Challenge, in our Humanities class, Rhetoric, we studied how people can challenge the status quo, or what is normal in society. We took a very specific look into the events of the Marquette Park March in 1966 for housing equality. We discussed if this event was rhetorically successful, and how Martin Luther King, Jr challenged what was the status quo at the time. For this Action Project, we chose one person who is important to us that challenges the status quo, and find them a position where we think they could affect change. I decided to nominate Sarah Prager, the author of the book Queer, There and Everywhere, and creator of the app Quist for the position of President of the Human Rights Campaign.
For this Action Project, I had trouble finding a lot of information about Sarah Prager's book, as it just came out in May, so is relatively new. I decided, instead of searching on the internet, I went to websites specifically for book reviews, like Goodreads. I think this project gave me a better view of those who challenge the status quo, and what I can do in my life to challenge it. Thank you so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed.
